Strategic Grantmaking and Community Leadership

We know that impact is amplified when it’s driven by strategy. That’s why, in 2017, we took a step back to better understand our community’s greatest challenges. From hosting listening sessions to investing in a data project, we focused on gathering information about the city we serve to ensure that our grantmaking is as effective as it can possibly be.

Over the course of 2017, we distributed more than $15 million to nonprofits. Every organization that received a grant is working, in one way or another, to address pressing issues in our community — including intergenerational poverty, economic mobility, and equity in education. We also awarded over $600,000 in scholarships to more than 400 local high school students, helping them to attend college and secure a brighter future.

Of course, it’s about more than the numbers: it’s about the lives touched, the people served, the opportunities created. Here are just a few.
